What if I told you that some of the most COMMON advice given many experts, Successful Entrepreneurs, Celebrities and other Role Models was some of the WORST advice you could ever take?
You can’t blame these people. Most don’t REALLY know WHY they are as successful as they are…they THINK they know, but some are actually way off.
If you were to spend 20 minutes drinking coffee with someone you look up to, it’s a safe bet that eventually, you’d ask him or her, “Ok, so what is the secret to your success? What qualities, habits and actions attributed to your success?”
He or she might say, “Well, You need to be Persistent!”
Take your coffee, throw it in their face and dramatically get up and leave. Ok, don’t do that. But bare with me for a moment as I explain why this subtle word “Persistent” needs to be removed from your vocabulary for good.
Let’s quickly define the word…
Persistence. (n). Firm or obstinate continuance in a course of action, despite difficulty or opposition.
Now, don’t get me wrong! You CAN be super successful by being persistent! You actually CAN find a way to jam that square peg into the round hole…eventually…but is that really the best course of action…is that really the way you want to live your life?
Is it possible you were too busy (fixated on, attached to) jamming that square peg, that you actually missed an easier opportunity?
What do you think of when you hear the word “Persistence.” What do you feel?
I’m easily reminded of the the fable of the hard-working bumble bee who is banging his head into the glass trying to get through to the other side. The harder he bangs his head, the more confident he is that he’ll actually get through…until of course he gets too tired and gives up. If he would have only taken a moment to back up, and look at the entire window, he would have noticed an opening just six inches too his left. Hey! At least he was persistent!
I’d like to offer a Permanent Replacement to the word Persistent Instead of feeling frustrated, angry, and forceful on your path to success, what if you were…
What do you think of when you hear the word “Patience?” What do you feel?
For me, Patience connotes Absolute Certainty. Confidence. An unwavering knowing that success is inevitable. Let’s define this word…
Patience. (n) The capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble or suffering without getting angry or upset
Patience vs Persistence…
BOTH words allude to difficulty ahead. Building your business is NOT easy (did someone tell you it would be?!) There will be hurdles, road blocks and unforeseen challenges!
With every adversity, you get to choose HOW you will face this difficulty…with frustration, anger and force…or simply, with Grace.
You get to choose Patience or Persistence. Both can get you there…it just depends HOW.
And for some, these two words may seem like a subtle difference. For me, it means the world. I used to be stressed, frustrated and angry that I wasn’t seeing results in my business. That is NOT a healthy or effective way to grow or attract what you want.

Here’s my super-simple Action Item/Exercise for you this week…do this, and you’ll see exactly what I mean.
Imagine you’re sitting in there in your office, in front of your computer having what people like to call, “a bad day.” Your hand hurts from banging your fist against the desk, and there’s probably a clump or two of hair that you’ve pulled out of your head in frustration.
All of a sudden, with a loud crash, “Future You” appears right before you. Future Self has traveled back in time from 5 years from now with a message. Your Future Self explains that everything you wanted and more has come into fruition. Your business, financial and personal goals have all been surpassed! You have succeeded beyond your wild dreams!
Before this mysterious visitor leaves, Future Self says one final thing:
“No matter what you do, your success IS inevitable!” Poof! Future Self is Gone.
Your Success is Inevitable.
Imagine for a moment that you believe this with absolute certainty! I mean, it must be true! You just saw a good looking version of yourself from the future appear out of thin air! I would believe them!!
How would you act if you knew your success was inevitable?
How would you carry out your days, if you knew that everything you wanted and more was coming in your way?
If it were me… I’d simply be patient. I wouldn’t get upset or frustrated if I faced a problem. I wouldn’t give up so easily. I would just keep going. I would have Confidence. Certainty. Patience.
Try it some time.
What’s the secret to success?
What I do know is that you can choose HOW you to act and feel at any step of your journey. Just remember…
“There’s no such thing as a happy ending to an unhappy journey.”
