Anyone who knows me knows that I love to read. I have always found most of my inspiration and insight from nonbusiness books. There are three books in particular that have had a tremendous impact on my life and business.
On my list, you won’t find books like Four Work Week, Think and Grow Rich, or Rework. I decided not to go with the traditional business books that everyone raves about and recommends.
I have found that everything in our lives is connected. You are likely to see similarities between your personal life and your business life, where fixing your personal life can most likely aid in fixing your business. I began looking for books that transcended the business or marketing categories to find clues on how to live a better life and ultimately have a better business.
Without further ado, here are my top three:
1. The Trick to Money Is Having Some! By Stuart Wilde
Whether you are obsessed with money or hate it, everyone has some connection with it. This powerful book opens our eyes to what money really is and how to improve your relationship with it so you can make it, give it, and spend it more freely. In business money is essentially our main scorekeeper, if you have a disempowering relationship with money, your business is probably suffering. No amount of marketing tricks or strategies can solve this problem which is the exact reason I recommend this book.
2. The Power Of Now, By Eckhart Tolle
I chose this book because I feel it is a powerful gateway drug into a world of spirituality and unlimited potential in your life. As business owners, we put ourselves under a lot of stress, this book will help to recenter and ground you. The Power Of Now helps you become more present in your life so you can have more insights, opportunities, and so you can make better decisions.
3. Vortex, By Esther and Jerry Hicks
While this book is a little out there, it is also simple and to the point. It is a must read for those of you who are having trouble dealing with your emotions, getting what you want, or resolving conflict with the ones you care about.
While these books are all amazing, I have also created a list of runner-up books which I have also enjoyed. They include: The Art of Speed Reading People by Paul D. Tieger, Hypnotic Writing by Joe Vitale, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey, The Magic of Thinking Big by David J. Schwartz, Awaken the Giant Within by Anthony Robbins, Built to Sell by John Warlow, Predictably Irrational by Dan Ariely, Tricks of the Mind by Derren Brown, and about 150 more…
Remember to look for books that aren’t necessarily related to business or marketing. Instead, look for books that transcend business principals and take special note when you find the same advice in more than one place.
